We bring you our Summer Collection of Slow Clothes in colourful block prints and hand weaves. For us, making clothing means opening up the process to include hand spinners, hand weavers, natural dyers, block printers, embroiderers...all the skilled artisans who are left behind in the rush to mass produce clothing.
Our new collection of handwoven linen and kala cotton in gingham checks, soft stripes, and bold weaves.

JAMDANI
HANDWOVEN
In Bengal, the humid climate demands an exceptionally fine, diaphanous weave. The resulting cloth is light and airy, able to catch the faintest breeze. Such cloths are known by the poetic term "woven air." Traditional dye techniques evolved to work with these exceptionally fine threads without breaking them.

Traditional handloom is a remarkably flexible technology. Handloom permits weaving from fibres too fine to be handled by industrial mills. The mechanism of the loom (almost always worked with bare feet) permits the weaver to judge by feel when it is too damp, or too dry to continue working with hand spun cotton.

WEAVINGS FROM NAGALAND
These are cushion covers and table runners handwoven by artisans from Nagaland. In the farthest reaches of North-east India is Dimapur, a beautiful mountainous place bordered by Bhutan, Bangladesh and Myanmar. Nagaland is home to 16 hill tribes who weave their distinctive patterns and motifs on back-strap looms. These are contemporary tribal weavings. Read more about the Nagaland Weavers here.

A NEW INNOVATION
For years we have worked with Dhebaria Rabari embroiderers. They make very playful, geometric patters through the appliqué technique. We also partner with block printing families who use natural dyes and who work in the Ajrakh tradition. The embroiderers and block printers live in the same area. And so, another collaboration was born.

HANDWOVEN, NATURALLY DYED YARDAGE
FROM BENGAL
We've spent years developing this handwoven fabric. We encouraged the famously talented Bengal weavers to return to natural dyes. They accepted the challenge - combining dyeing skills with their hereditary talents in transforming thread into cloth.
