For years maiwa has been selling blank textiles—suitable for dyeing. In 2020, in collaboration with the genius of India Flint we launched the Journeywoman Collection. The best of cloth, sewn into garments, ready for your dye pot.

Now Maiwa is proud to announce some of our favourite styles produced as dyeable garments. Working with natural dyes on finished clothing is so amazing, we just couldn't keep all the excitement for ourselves.

These are ready to be worn or introduced to your dye process. The threads are as dyeable as the cloth.

For embellishing these natural garments we recommend natural fibres like our Honest Yarn Organic Linen in Cobweb weight - Natural Undyed and White Undyed.

These coats are all about the sensual feeling of cloth. Layers of organic cotton are quilted together to give a weight that moves with you, keeps you warm, and yet has a light feeling that can be worn over almost anything. These are coats that speak about everything we love about textiles — cloth, stitch, pattern, colour, and feeling.

THE JASMINE COAT

One of our favourite coats with a standing collar and beautiful drape and swing. This version features 5 layers of wonderfully soft organic cotton sewn together with long vertical lines of stitching. The hems are left raw.  Hand-carved horn buttons down the front and deep side pockets.

THE HANDWOVEN QUILTED COAT

Three layers of lightweight handwoven cotton, quilted together. Naturally dyed hand woven cloth both inside and out, creating a reveal when you cuff a sleeve. An accentuated standing collar and an open front without closures.

JUST ARRIVED!

We call them tablecloths — but they are so much more. You can take them anywhere, and anywhere you put one down it will create a sense of place.

At Maiwa we work with artisans to create exceptional cloth. Patterns are always changing. The one above for example, is no longer available. But it holds a memory that is dear to us and so we include it to emphasize that cloth is always so much more than simply cloth. It makes us who we are and gives us the memories we cherish.

Cloth is a memory of the people who sat at your table. Cloth is the place where conversation flowed like wine with words and laughter. The next time you set a place you can feel the anticipation.

Cloth is a square of your own anywhere. A tiny kingdom where you can rest, content.
