The Nature of Handmade Cloth — New Clothing — Thoughtful Design in Meaningful Cloth
Our Fall collection grows from thoughtful design in meaningful cloth.
We have been making slow clothes for close to thirty years. For us, that means opening up the process to the hand spinners, hand weavers, natural dyers, block printers, and other artisans too often left behind in the rush to mass-produce clothing.
Working slowly makes room for creativity—and for an ecosystem of production built around meaningful work on a human scale. We actively seek to support artisan communities through the clothes we make. When we can choose between naturally dyed and undyed cloth, we choose the dyed. When we can choose between block-printed cloth and a solid colour, we choose the print.
Every cloth has its own nature: its texture, its drape, the character of its selvedges. Working with handmade cloth is a relationship between designer and artisan, shaped by shared knowledge and care. The fabric’s qualities guide what a garment can become, from its form and construction to its finishing. It mean smaller production runs and more considered construction. We take the time to understand each cloth, bring out its qualities in our designs, and finish every piece with intention.
We are proud of our clothing and all it says—not only about us, but about the world of handmade cloth. Each piece carries a relationship forward: between maker and artisan, design and material, hand and cloth.
