A COLLABORATION WITH
JAWAJA LEATHER & BHUJODI WEAVING

The Caravan Bag is the result of a collaboration between two highly skilled artisan groups.

The now famous Jawaja Leatherworkers from central Rajasthan are working with handweave from the internationally renowned Vankar weavers from Bhujodi village in Gujarat.  This is more than just a bag, it is an example of artisans working together to create exceptional items that have never been seen before.

This bag features sides made from hand-spun, handwoven cloth, finished with hand-tooled leather details and a long-lasting leather bottom. Inside is roomy with an interior pocket for items that require quick access. The distinctive motifs call out classic weaving traditions.

This is the first time these exceptional bags have been offered online — stock is limited to a few pieces of each style.

In addition to collaboration described above, we have just listed several new items from the Jawaja Leatherworkers: new large totes, new backpacks, new shoulder bags, and new accessories.

MEET THE ARTISANS
ARTISANS ALLIANCE OF JAWAJA

Maiwa has worked closely with the Artisan's Alliance of Jawaja for over twenty years. We have worked on product development and collaborations with other artisans. Most recently we have combined the skills of the Jawaja Leatherworkers with Banjara embroidery. While the cotton lining of many of the bags is traditionally block printed by the Dabu mud resist method.

The Maiwa Foundation has supported the Jawaja Leatherworkers through infrastructure development, financial assistance to eliminate a relationship with a predatory moneylender, and the hugely successful Pink Bike Project. The Maiwa Foundation — just one more example of Maiwa in Motion.
