WEAVINGS FROM NAGALAND

These are cushion covers and table runners handwoven by artisans from Nagaland. In the farthest reaches of North-east India is Dimapur, a beautiful mountainous place bordered by Bhutan, Bangladesh and Myanmar.  Nagaland is home to 16 hill tribes who weave their distinctive patterns and motifs on back-strap looms.  These are contemporary tribal weavings. Read more about the Nagaland Weavers here.

THE SWEETEST LITTLE BABY QUILTS

These whimsical baby quilts are a delightful combination of bright colours and traditional kantha stitchwork. Offcuts from saris are appliqué stitched into playful figures:  birds, fish, cars, kites and sea life.

HAND-STITCHED APPLIQUE

Each appliqué piece is one of a kind. They work well as bedspreads, table coverings or as curtains. Use them to tone down bright sunlight or to create a diaphanous separation between spaces. This hand-stitched appliqué is created by using two layers of medium-weight cotton. The design is cut on white fabric and appliquéd onto a natural base.

The perfect surface: NEW silk bandanas, shawls, and yardage.

We have expanded our line of blank textiles again. We are particularly excited about our new silk bandanas made from hand reeled, handwoven mulberry silk. Natural dyes on silk have a clear, vivid intensity that is unlike anything else. Our packs of multiples help you imagine a project and all its variations.

Just Released

Maybe you know about silk. Most of us do. Its lustre and sheen is unlike any other fibre. It's tempting luxury caused Pliny the Elder to rail against it almost two-thousand years ago. But what of the wild silks? Most wild silks are spun by moths as large as your open hand. They are fantastic creatures creating equally fantastic fibres. What is wild silk? Who works with it? Where do they live and what are their lives like?
