We are featuring a rare offering of Dr. Ismail Khatri’s recent collection of traditional ajrakh textiles. For this collection, he has returned to the beginning of ajrakh and used only the original patterns and dyes used by his forbearers nine generations back. Many are double sided — an extraordinary feat in itself.

About Kakishibu

Kakishibu has a rich cultural heritage that dates back centuries in ancient Japan. This natural dye, derived from fermented unripe persimmon fruit, holds a special place in Japanese traditional crafts of textiles, paper and woodwork. Renowned for its rich amber colour, durability, and eco-friendly properties, kakishibu continues to captivate artisans.

BHUJODI SHAWLS

Drape a masterpiece over your shoulder.
When people ask us about the most spectacular handweave being done today, we think of a few places in India. One of the groups that top that list is the Vankar family of Bhujodi.

While handweavers know that cloth is like architecture, dyers see cloth as a palette, a canvas. Bring these two artisan groups together and the creative possibilities are endless.

REMAKING WITH THREAD

Mend what is torn and in the process you make it a bit better, and you add a little of yourself into the cloth. Embellish with a stitch that tells of who you are, how you care, and what you can do.

CARRY SOMETHING SPECIAL

Traditional embroidery has always had a role in the world. It has always been a visual statement of skill. It has always been an expression of beauty. It has always worked to transform a plain piece of cloth into something extraordinary.
