Maiwa's relationship with traditional printing methods on textiles keeps an entire community of block carvers working. We also commission hand carved wood blocks and brass blocks to sell in our stores. So that all artisans can experience the wonder of working with these magnificent blocks on textiles, in clay and beyond.
Some blocks are designed by us, but most are designed by the very clever geometric imaginations of the carvers themselves.
It is not necessary to print with these blocks to appreciate how beautiful they are. They work as extraordinary objects to inspire you each time you see them.
Maiwa searches the world to find beautiful, organic cloth for our shop. Our blanks are designed to be platforms for your creativity and handwork… or just simply enjoyed for their natural beauty. All made of 100% natural fibres, most are handwoven and organic certified and many are woven with hand-spun thread making them a dream to work with. We are always adding to this collection.
