At Home with Bandhani — New Table Runners

Introducing our new Bandhani table runners.

This cloth is the result of a design collaboration between Maiwa and master Bandhani artisans from the Kachchh Desert of Gujarat, Western India. The handwoven cotton cloth becomes a canvas—where every motif, every line, is brought to life through the intricate translation of thousands of hand-tied knots. There’s a quiet poetry in seeing a design reimagined in this way—each dot a gesture of time, care, and tradition.

Each dot is formed by creating a tiny peak in the cloth and tightly wrapping it with thread to resist the dye.

The name “Bandhani” derives from the Sanskrit term meaning “to tie.” Tied resist is a traditional technique that has been practiced in India for centuries. Artisans work with extraordinary precision, slowly patterning the entire cloth—a lengthy process with an exquisite outcome.

To achieve design with this process using natural dyes requires exceptional skill and patience. These unique pieces are dyed with plant dyes - indigo, madder, marigold, myrobolan, pomegranate rinds, and iron water.  The result of applying bandhani to cotton is a textile with a distinctive character and life of its own.

Use these textiles to define space — running down a table, in your tea ceremony, at the foot of your bed, or on your wall. However you imagine, let them become part of your world.
