JAMDANI

HANDWOVEN

In Bengal, the humid climate demands an exceptionally fine, diaphanous weave. The resulting cloth is light and airy, able to catch the faintest breeze. Such cloths are known by the poetic term "woven air.”

These garments are sewn from exquisite Bengal Saris where the different elements of the sari are placed thoughtfully to highlight the intricate jamdani - a traditional technique where the artisan uses a supplementary weft thread to create intricate designs. At each throw of the shuttle, the weaver stops and turns the threads of the each motif by hand. As the weaver progresses a field of pattern emerges.

A flowing A-line dress in our favourite kala cotton with natural fleck. Featuring a scooped neckline front and back, side pockets, and wide straps with generous arm holes. A dress you could live in!

Made with beautiful handwoven kala cotton cloth. Kala cotton is indigenous to the Kachchh region of India. It is highly sustainable and organic by nature, as farmers do not need to use any pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. All it needs to thrive is one monsoon a year. The final product is a desirable cotton with a natural fleck that softens with every wash.
